Sticks and Stones; What we do to make words hurt

You hear a whole lot of name calling in today’s political circles, you hear words like Liberal, Socialist, Marxist, Conservative, Cronies… the list goes on, but can anyone tell me how any of these concepts other than of course the last one obviously, are ‘bad’ words? How did Liberal come to mean weak or Conservative come to mean evil and/or insidious?

Aren’t we all in a sense liberal about some things and conservative in regard to others?

I mean really folks the root of the word liberal from the Latin ‘liber’ means free not slave and is the root of the concept of liberty, meaning free from coercion or control. We all make choices in life on a daily basis, therefore we’re all *shudder* Liberal!

Conservatism is the ideology that adherence to tradition and social normalcy is a good thing, a wholesome thing and rapid or sudden change is a bad thing not having been well thought out and possibly a knee jerk reaction to a situation. That having been said, we’re all conservative to some degree also, all of us have traditions that for whatever reason, we partake in yearly, be that holidays or sports traditions or rituals and not one of us wants our whole social order turned on its head, we’re comfortable in our own little realities we’ve created for ourselves and therefore, *flinches* Conservative!

But what do our political parties do with just these two words? The right calls the left a bunch of leftie liberals…. the connotation therein being, weak, social butterflies without substance or intestinal fortitude! How the hell did this happen to the word that at its very base means Free and forms the word and our general understanding of the concept of Liberty? The liberalist ideology therein being that we see to one another and our general well being as a group by ensuring our rights to choice and freedom as a group.

The left calls the right, fundamentalist, xenophobic, fascist radical conservatives…. the connotation being, closed minded, religious zealots with leanings toward imperialism, seeking to rule through corporate powers. How the hell did this happen? Conservatives generally and there are MANY forms of conservatism, seek to maintain tradition and order and generally seek to limit governmental powers over traditional elements of our society. The conservative believes wholeheartedly in Caution and Moderation believing that this is the strength of our liberty.

So when we take the above two descriptions side by side, the two sides seem to share some basic tenants however I would have to interject that a mix of the two ideologies would make for the best structure to ensure a country’s economic and social success. Does that make me a conservative since my idea suggests all things in moderation? How could that be? I believe in freedom of choice, free will and lending a helping hand to a neighbor in need! Who are you and where are you talking me in this hand basket?

Now let’s explore the word Socialism or Socialist which some would have you believe equates with Communist hence oppressive. Just like Conservatism there are many forms of Socialism and some we see around us here in this country on a daily basis. Many lay claims that China and Russia are socialistic regimes however this could not be further from the truth, while they lay claim to socialism, they are truly ‘communist’ states where the government controls every aspect of society through their convoluted form of socialism which literally oppresses the people giving all power to the government.

Socialism as intended would literally spread the power amongst the people,  the people being the ‘governing body’ via ownership, or to simplify, the capital of the country’s production (domestic production) would be shared with the whole as in a cooperative. So if you like I, belong to a Co-op be it a food co-op where you barter or sell your produce, or a co-operative electric service such as the EMC, then you already practice socialism to a degree.  Let me simplify even further, when our tax dollars go toward a portion of the operating budget of schools, libraries, fire departments, emergency medical services, police departments, food stamps, medicaid/medicare, social security, etc… that my friends is Socialism. The general idea being that we the people, take care of our own, provide for our own, ensure the security of our own. Socialism is only a negative term when attached to a dictatorial society who have given over their right for whatever reason, to choose who heads their party and guides the process, in essence a communist form of socialism or a dictatorship.

So with all this having been said, let’s not fall victim to the cronies mindset, we need to weigh and consider the root meanings of words and consider them in the context in which they are received and not let the cronies dictate to us what they mean. When you hear a known liberal speaking about sharing the wealth they’re not talking about taking from you to give to them, they’re talking about what we already do for the public works system as a whole, they’re talking about sharing responsibility and sharing the workload as well as the benefits of the work, they’re liberals for gawds sakes they’re certainly not advocating for Communism, use your head! When you hear conservatives talking about limited government and free markets, they’re not advocating for let the rich get richer and screw the poor, they’re talking about keeping sacred things sacred and keeping the government out of our choices of work, home and worship.They’re talking about entrepreneurship without impediment.

When either side advocates taking a choice ‘from you’ that is constitutional, that’s when you need to stand up and take notice. When one side wants to reverse a law designed to protect your freedom of choice, or a law designed to ensure your liberty as an individual, that’s when you need to take a stand, that’s when you REALLY need to LISTEN to the WORDS being bandied about. We’re getting stuck on meaningless buzzwords, terms meant to conjure up negativity and fear, so the word you need to learn is PROPAGANDA and know when it’s being fed to you on one of their many silver spoons. Most of all you need to remember that you are more controlled by fear than most any other emotion and they know this, they being the ones that would seek to control your choices, would seek to sway your opinions. These are the same who sell you crap on the boob tube using sex and fear to enhance their products and drive your desire to own it.

Wake up people, they’re words, don’t give them power and they won’t take power over you!

Vietnam Veterans Against John McCain

Veterans talking about how John McCain managed to survive the Vietcong by selling them information and making dozens of propaganda tapes for Vietcong media, then going on to block the acquisition of said tapes and files from Hanoi as well as information regarding other POW/MIA soldiers to protect his own political career.

 

McCain’s Mistreatment of POW/MIA families

Family members of POW/MIA soldiers seeking to uncover evidence of those soldiers say they have faced horrid treatment from John McCain. According to their testimony, McCain covers up evidence of their locations, DNA evidence, witness testimony and interrupts meetings on the hill before senate committees, inserting his viewpoint, berating those who are testifying, backhanding a  woman whose ‘civilian’ family member has been MIA in Vietnam for years, even physically threatening a disabled family member and finally shoving her wheelchair out of his way. When the women who were assaulted tried to file charges with Senate Police, they were threatened with arrest for disturbing the peace and forced to leave the premises.

If he were indeed a war hero with nothing to hide, why would he act this way toward the families of those who were taken prisoner or missing in action. Had he not been complicit with the Vietcong, had he not sold them secrets in return for favorable treatment, would he act this way? Is this the way someone running for President should handle themselves much less their constituents? Do you want someone with such a low boiling point and lack of self-control holding the nuclear football?

 

The real McCain on POW/MIA

Why did John McCain and John Kerry oppose the formation of a Senate Select Committee on POW/MIA affairs? Why did McCain seek to block formation of the committee for over 9 months and insist that no committee be formed unless he could be chairman? Why are transcripts of the secrets John McCain sold the Vietcong still classified? What are these two senators hiding from not only the families of POW/MIA soldiers, but from the American people as well?
